Description
The faculty of the Department of Geography at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full time, professional-track position at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, 2026. The position is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic year (4-4 load). This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
The successful candidate is expected to teach a range of GIS courses, including GEOG 105 – The Digital Earth, GEOG 263 – Introduction to GIS, and advanced courses such as Advanced GIS, Spatial Programming, Drones, and WebGIS with an emphasis on applications that address issues in both the physical and social environments. Other courses may be taught as agreed to by the department chair. The teaching load is four courses per semester and may include online instruction.
Requirements
Candidates must have a PhD in Geography or applied GIScience by the start date of the appointment.
Successful candidates must have teaching experience in GIS, Cartography, or Remote Sensing as instructor of record.
