GIS Technician
Description
GIS stands for Geographic Information System. It’s a tool that helps people map, analyze, and understand data related to the Earth’s surface. GIS combines maps with data to show things like where roads, buildings, rivers, or forests are located. GIS can help cities plan where to build new roads, track changes in the environment, or figure out where certain plants or animals live.
A GIS technician works with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create and manage maps and spatial data. Their job is to collect, organize, and analyze information about locations and features on the Earth’s surface. Here are some of their main tasks:
Create maps that show things like roads, buildings, rivers, and even data about the environment, like pollution or population density.
Gather geographic data from surveys, satellites, and other sources to update maps or create new ones.
Look at the data to find patterns or trends.
Make sure that the data in the system is accurate, up-to-date, and easy to access.
